Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services for Children with ASD

Foundations Behavioral Health provides In Home and Community Based Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services (BHRS) and Wraparound (WRAP) as a part of the full continuum of care for children and adolescents with ASD. BHRS/WRAP services are unique given that clinicians help individuals/families with behavioral health problems by providing services in a more natural environment including homes, schools, and community locations.

I was responsible for designing and delivering a 6-hour training program for more than 80 in-home behavioral providers to address the specific needs of children and adolescents with ASD. Training was designed specifically and delivered separately to Therapeutic Support Staff, and to Mobile Therapists (MTs) and Behavioral Specialist Consultants (BSCs) regarding their unique roles and responsibilities.  A combined training to all groups emphasized positive and proactive behavioral interventions, and the need to understand the special challenges faced by caregivers. This was the first training to be explicitly designed to take advantage of the expansion offered by new Pennsylvania autism insurance legislation: it described how MTs and BSCs could designed programs to target socially significant deficits contributing to problem behaviors, and how to systematically generalize these skills to eliminate barriers to health, well-being, and community participation.
